I thought this might make for some discussion. I cut and paste what is below from the event calendar.

KREIA (KY Real Estate Inspectors Assc) Annual Meeting, October 24, 2008

Clay Hardwick, State of Kentucky Radon Program, and Kyle Hoylman, Kentucky Association of Radon Professionals (KARP), gave a one hour presentation to home inspectors pertaining to state laws that effect radon testing, mitigation and laboratory analysis. The presentation also included those deficiencies most observed on systems throughout the state. The purpose of the presentation was to begin strenghtening ties between the state program, KARP and KREIA.

Results:
Spoke to a group of about 5 home inspectors. Anticipated larger audience but only a few home inspectors came to our session. Some of the inspectors were concerned about fees and whether they would be required to pay for NEHA credentials when they had already received certificates from EPA on radon. They see requirements and fees for another credential as a stumbling block to recruiting people into radon mitigation field. We discussed how we are going to have language in the revised KY regulations for "grandfathering".

The way I see it, NEHA and NRSB is what Kentucky is going to go with for certification training. If this becomes too burdensome for home inspectors, then they really need to seriously rethink if this is the business for them because, this is what our nation is certifying radon professionals with. Grandfathering will be addressed but it will account for experience and it will not transfer into an "awarded" certification. CH
