***ANNOUNCEMENTS***
Federal Radon Action Plan:
Federal agencies, including U.S Environmental Protection Agency, the General Services Administration, and the departments of Agriculture, Defense, Energy, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, and Veterans Affairs, have joined forces to help save lives and create healthier home and school environments for America’s families. The Federal Radon Action Plan brings together commitments that help to reduce exposure to radon and protect the health of Americans through leveraging and advancing existing state, local and national programs. It also brings together government agencies to demonstrate the importance of radon risk reduction, address finance and incentive issues to drive testing and mitigation, and build demand for services from industry professionals. The Action Plan was announced by senior leaders from partner agencies at the National Healthy Homes Conference this week in Denver, Colo. Over this next year, the federal family will continue to work together to implement the Plan. Information on the Federal Radon Action Plan: http://www.epa.gov/radon/action_plan.html.
National Radon Poster Contest:
The National Radon Poster Contest (http://sosradon.org/poster-contest) is underway with changes to the prizes. National winners will receive a plaque and gift card in the amount of $1,000 for first place, $600 for second, $400 for third and $400 for special online voting recognition. The posters will be reproduced and distributed across the country to promote radon awareness and testing of homes, schools and other buildings during National Radon Action Month in January 2012 and throughout the year. The deadline is October 31, 2011; for state-specific deadlines which may be earlier, visit http://sosradon.org/poster-contest-contacts.
