What sort of warranties / guarantees do all of you have out there that you give to your clients. It would be interesting and educational to view a variety of warranties and guarantees offered by different radon professionals. We refuse to move off the 4 pCi/L warranty. In addition we only give a 1 year warranty on workmanship & a pass thru of manufactures warranty. When u least expect it the home that should be a no brainer to fix bites u & wastes your time & money $ reputation because u can't meet the warranty commitment. We also exclude houses where the building materials or radon in water are proven to be present after the system is installed. We also have a clause that the reported base-line initial radon results must be reproducible +/- 15%. We explain to our customers that unscrupulous radon companies that offer unrealistic warranties are placing the home owner at a false sense of security and added risk since the USEPA recommends the treated success of radon reduction be verified every 2 years. Offering warranties beyond this recommendation suggest to the home owner they are safe with out annual inspection of the systems function which would include a radon retest. We have 1 competitor that offers a warranty for reductions to below 4 pCi/L demonstrated by a short term retest. If the short term test is not below 4 pCi/L they require a 1 year test be done as a second effort to meet the warranties limits (not very useful in real estate transactions). If that fails they state they will remove the system & refund the money. Of course this is all in the fine print.Knowing the deficiencies of a competitors paper work including warranties Makes it easy to explain to a potential customer why you are a better choice. Be careful promising more than can be delivered. We can't close every potential customer. We must use a business model that's honest even if it cost us business. Don't take risks that you can't live up to.David Grammer Sent from my iPhoneOn Mar 30, 2011, at 4:16 PM, David Daniels wrote:Just so everyone understands, in my area most of the homes have gravel under the slabs. From the late 70's they started installing interior drain tiles along with the exterior. So, most of our systems are straight forward sub-slab installs that pull air through gravel & drain tile, which is good because I'm not to smart. For a long time now I have guaranteed levels of 1.9 or below if the home has gravel under the slab. Is that a risk? Not really, to me anyway. When a system is installed properly most homes come in below 1, hardly any over 1.5. My question is this. Has anyone ran into a company guaranteeing 1.0 or below, in the basement? I don't think its worth the risk, even when installing a larger air volume fan. If 15% of the homes come in between 1.1 and 1.9 we would be wasting too much time chasing down ghosts. I have a competitor that is hurting for business, his lies and business practices are catching up with him, that is now guaranteeing 1.0 or less. A potential customer that tested at 3.1 wants a system because they work out of the basement. If I guarantee the 1.0 or less I have the job. Opinions?
