Jim-  I would also recommend you talk to your state or local health department representatives.  Government agencies can often get free radio time just by asking.  I have worked with contractors on outreach activities like this before.

I have been on the Radio multiple times, at the same station (#1 in our market) and during the drive home. At first there was a good response. The station had
never seen that number of calls come in for a show. But each subsequent time the calls came in less and less. If it’s on a Sat. I would imagine that the audience would be on the low side. And if you are buying time, for Radio…., I personally would not. I did
not have to pay to be on the show, so it was an easy call. I had a free hour each time.
Maybe try it once if money is involved, without committing to anything to see how it goes. If it was good then maybe do again, with a show per show deal, nothing
long term. That way you are not stuck throwing money down a rat hole.

Jim and Colleagues,
There is alot to talk about in regard to radon but there are a couple of questions that need to weighed:
are you "buying time" and, if so, how much are you paying for how much time and at what time of the day?
what is the size of the audience at this time slot?
what are the demographics of the audience, e.g., male, female, age, homeowner vs. renter?
Frankly, I love live radio, especially in-depth public radio, with listener phone-in but it is important to have an news worthy angle.  You can build free time if you feed producers news worthy material.

We have been approached by a local AM radio station to possible start doing a Saturday talk show on radon, its health effects and any other aspects ( in regards to the issue of
radon ).  It would include having folks calling in to ask questions etc. about the issue of radon.  Couple of questions……has anyone dealt with this before ?  There is some   $ $   strings attached.  They also said if wanted I could have other trades on the
show that are associated with radon…..home builders, health officials etc.  Basically interview them on about their take on radon etc.

Couple of concerns would also be…..after a while would we run out of things to talk about on radon or is it a deep enough subject that goes on and on that could be talked about
weekly ?  Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks !
