The Executive Stakeholder Committee for the AARST Consortium on National Radon Standards is reviewing priorities for standards topics to engage and initiate in 2015.
Topping the list of requests are standards for new construction (e.g., multifamily, schools, large buildings) and continued elaboration on standards related to device quality and traceability.
The Executive Stakeholder Committee has concluded that input on priorities be sought from the wider radon stakeholder community. Choosing projects to engage is always a challenge due to limited resources in both administrative aid and willing volunteers.
To catalogue an overview of standards topics:
Measurement practices:
Consensus standards now exist to cover Homes, Multifamily and Schools/Large Bldg.
Missing: Water sampling; Building material emanation; OSHA updates.
Mitigation practices:
Consensus standards now exist to cover Multifamily and Schools/Large Bldg.
Consensus standards exist to cover Homes and an update project is active that encompasses all soil gas mitigation in existing homes.
Missing: Water mitigation; Consideration to harmonize with weatherization programs.
New Construction or Model Codes:
Consensus standards now exist to cover Homes and Low-rise residential
Missing: Multifamily, Schools, Large Buildings.
Test Devices:
A consensus standard is in it's final stages of completion that covers the first cornerstone of device quality: Device performance.
Missing: Most other device issues, to include: Issues on reference traceability that includes chambers; and Quality Assurance topics where there is a need to reconcile contradictions in older guidance, clarify requirements and address missing requirements.
We request your input on project priorities for 2015.
Sincerely,
The Executive Stakeholder Committee
