The who's who of healthy homes gathered this morning to applaud release of The Surgeon General's Call to Action to Promote Healthy Homes (CTA). Radon is prominent throughout the CTA, including substantial sections on risk and mitigation. Access the CTA via http://www.surgeongeneral.gov.

Actions recommended on radon include:
(1) testing;
(2) radon mitigation and radon-resistant construction in new homes in the Midwest and East; and
(3) contacting your local or state health department for assistance.

The Director of the National Building Museum, Chase Rynd, welcomed everyone and introduced the acting Surgeon General, Rear-Admiral Steven Galson. Remarks were also made by Ron Sims, Deputy HUD Secretary for Development, and Howard Frumkin, Director, National Center for Environmental Health, ATSDR, and Mary Jean Brown, also of the NCEH/ATSDR. Ms. Dorothy O'Bannon, a single mother of two and homeowner from Baltimore also spoke movingly about how her family were living in a healthier home environment due to assistance provided through Federally funded lead poisoning prevention and healthy homes programs.
