August 28, 2009 - Jani

Hi! I’m Jani—I’m the newest addition to the IED radon team at EPA’s HQ (coming close to my one month anniversary). If I haven't already, I know I will soon interact with many of you (see you in St Louis!).

If anyone is curious as to what I've been up to before I came to EPA, I’ve put together a short bio to satisfy that curiosity. Long story short—just about every aspect of IAQ from thermography, radon, ventilation, fungi, lead, asbestos, particulates, VOC, Tools for Schools, asthma programs, mobile sources, laboratory QA, and good bit of technical writing. If you stop reading now, I won’t feel bad, but for those hardcore, interested folks I’ve provided a bit more detail.

I recently moved from Florida where I was an IEQ Scientist for a school district. A great deal of my time there was spent diagnosing, testing, and mitigating to provide excellent IAQ (including Radon of course!). I spent time as a contracted IAQ Scientist for the ALA in Palm Beach County, as well as some good years in industrial hygiene with a private company. During my time at the Florida Dept. of Health in Palm Beach Co., I involved myself with outdoor air quality regulations, inspections, and mobile sources, as well as the lead-based paint program. Later, I helped launch the IAQ program for the county. I even spent a few years at the South Florida Water Management District where I wrote technical documents, feasibility studies, etc. But possibly the most exciting part of my stint there was driving the airboats in the Everglades and the alligator avoidance/wrestling techniques I learned in the field.

Well that’s not everything, but it’s enough, I’m sure! I look forward to interacting with all the radon leaders--I heard you are all a great group. Keep up to good work and sincere efforts!
