Pro Ten Services, official UK Radon TEE coordinators have launched the United Kingdom leg of the trek with visits to the Health Protection Agency and the British Research Establishment. On its first outing, the UK TEE accompanied ProTen Managing Director, Martin Freeman, to a consultation meeting at the Health Protection Agency, where potential changes to radon policies were discussed. The following day, the TEE attended a symposium at BRE Headquarters on estates management for school bursars, where ProTen Services presented a seminar on radon risks, regulations and remediation techniques. The city of Bath has become the latest stop on the Radon TEE World Trek UK tour. Famed for its Georgian architecture, Roman thermal spa and being the one-time home to Jane Austen, Bath is the only city in Britain to be designated as a World Heritage Site. The Jane Austen Centre in Bath has tested for radon and is pleased to support the Radon TEE campaign. ProTen Services’ Rebecca Kench accompanied TEE to meet Centre Director, David Baldock, and Martin Salter, who dresses in Regency costume and greets visitors to the Centre. It is reputed that Mr. Salter is the most photographed man in England, posing for an estimated 13,000 pictures each year. Perhaps TEE will become such a STAR!
The Radon TEE World Trek 2010 campaign aims to bring social awareness to communities through the power of photos, videos and personal stories. “Radon TEE” has been keeping the United States roads hot in the last month and half. Our little black t-shirt is making its way across our country to increase radon awareness, testing and mitigation, thereby preventing future deaths due to radon-induced lung cancer. Radon TEE blazed a wicked trail throughout the bluegrass state of Kentucky, appearing on TV five times and wrapping up with its final performance in the state capitol with a photograph with Governor Steve Beshear. The KY state captain, Heather Robbins, and Radon TEE’s manager, Kyle Hoylman, had a blast with all the other Radon TEE leaders in Kentucky.
TEE will be making side trips to the Regional Stakeholders Meetings in DC, Dallas, Denver, Newport RI, Minneapolis, Lexington and the Legislative Summit in Louisville. The Land of Lincoln is now hosting Radon TEE, then it is off to Colorado. We also have state captains lined up in CO, PA, MA, NC, WI, SC, UT, OH, and MN!
We need state captains in every state to step up and put your state on the RADON TEE map! To register as a state captain, just become a member of www.radonleaders.org and click on Radon TEE. Be sure to choose the dates you would like to host TEE in your state. A member of CanSAR will then contact you. Only one captain per state is needed but several leaders are helpful.
Please become a fan of Radon TEE on Facebook. Radon TEE's facebook page, www.facebook.com/radontee, helps you track Radon TEE's trek. If you already have your own facebook page, you only have to go to Radon TEE's page and click on the "Become a fan" button. If you don't have a facebook page, it is very easy and fun to create one. You do not have to provide much information, just your name and email. Please interact with Radon TEE; this won't take much of your time.
