Radon Colleagues,
Thank you for another successful National Radon Action Month. To name just a few of the successes:
Lots of NRAM and related activities and events were conducted and posted to RadonLeaders.org. There's time to post more through February using the single or batch option. So far about 1600 events/activities have been posted for the 2012 NRAM period (Oct - Feb). The final count for NRAM and related events/activities posted for 2011 and 2010 were 2091 and 1995 respectively. Also please remember to inspire others and put a spotlight on your program by using the Share Your NRAM Story feature on RadonLeaders. org; it enables you to post a more detailed narrative, along with pictures, video, flyers, etc.
The upward trend for Kansas State University's National Radon Poster Contest continues, despite the change in the national prize from a trip to Washington, DC to a gift card of up to $1000. K-State reported 4221 poster entries were received mostly through contests in 32 states. This is an increase of 217 entries over last year. EPA Regions, state radon programs and schools have done a great job of hosting special events to recognize the winners and generate local media coverage.
If you haven't read this year's terrific radon blogs, go to www.epa.gov/radon and find them posted on the right-hand side of the page. In addition, a student wrote a blog about participation in the Radon Poster Contest. Look for it on the same page but in the section where you see the first place poster image. Most of these blogs were translated into Spanish and an original blog in Spanish was posted too. Fee free to re-post these blogs on your websites, facebook, etc.
There was also a radon stakeholder call hosted by EPA and targeted for mommy and environment/health bloggers. The panel was impressive and included senior officials from EPA, HUD and ALA.
Thanks again for all of your radon outreach work during NRAM and year-round.
