The Sixth Annual Region 6 EPA/State Radon Stakeholders’ Meeting will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 from 8:00am-5:00pm in Santa Fe, New Mexico
This meeting is being held at no cost for all those that have a stake in protecting the public from unnecessary exposure to radon in their homes, schools and businesses. It is the intent of EPA Region 6 and its partners; the New Mexico Environmental Department, the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, the Texas Department of State Health Services, AARST (the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists) and CRCPD, Inc (Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors) to bring interested stakeholders together to discuss common issues, provide insight into the future, understand the issues from other perspectives, share, educate and network. This meeting will focus on radon. We believe that meetings such as this will better equip all of us with ways to assist the public and reduce radon exposures.
We will:
Address how federal and state policies address healthy housing and identify opportunities to promote good indoor air quality in affordable housing. The conference will examine communication techniques for reaching diverse audiences; ways to use education and outreach for primary prevention; what makes up successful education and outreach programs; collaboration between public agencies and community groups.
Discuss promoting Indoor Air Quality as part of successful community development in rural and urban areas, single and multifamily options. This will include presentations and discussions on how radon and other indoor air contaminants are included in current Green Building efforts.
