Through the SIRG funding from the EPA and in cooperation with the Eastern Regional Radon Training Center (ERRTC) at Rutgers University, two new training courses have recently been given to Pennsylvania radon industry.
Bill Brodhead gave a one-day course on post-mitigation diagnostics. This is a course that steers the mitigator away from the reaction to immediately change out the fan when there are continued post-mitigation elevated radon readings. Some topics discussed were inadequate pressure field extension, untreated sources, radon in water, building materials, proper fan size and selection, size of suction pits, to name a few.
Tim Musser and Terry Tomsky (Rutgers Univ) presented the other course, titled Electrical Troubleshooting and Safety for Radon Mitigation. This course helped the mitigator better understand the electrical aspects of the installation from code compliance to electrical safety to wiring. It was a very well received course and one of the most specific courses that we have hosted.
