The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) announced Radon Action Month with a proclamation from Governor Christie, noting that as many as 500 residents of New Jersey each year could be killed by radon induced lung cancer. http://www.njradon.org/download/proc_2018.pdf

The declaration of Radon Action Month is an effort to promote radon awareness, testing and mitigation. The NJDEP encourages testing during the winter months and notes that elevated levels of radon (greater than 4pCi/L, the USEPA recommended action level) may be found anywhere in the state, whether or not the location is noted in the radon potential map as being at risk. See the map at http://www.njradon.org/radonin.htm.

Municipal and county health departments are participating in the campaign, with some offering free test kits, and hardware stores in New Jersey or certified radon businesses offer test kits for sale.
