EPA has released the first of seven technical guidance modules - moisture control - to assist home builders, subcontractors, architects, and other residential construction professionals in implementing the construction requirements of the Indoor airPLUS labeling program for new homes. The Moisture Control module addresses the construction methods and component materials necessary for managing water intrusion from exterior and interior sources. Best Practice Installation Procedures are provided as additional practices that builders and others may adopt (these practices are not required) as they continue to address indoor air quality.

Each technical guidance module is designed to explain the intent of each of the program's requirements, as well as how to implement each of the preferred methods or install materials to meet Indoor airPLUS Construction Specifications. The next guidance in the series will address Radon Control, followed by Pest Barriers, HVAC Systems, Combustion Pollutant Control, Low-Emission Materials, and Home Commissioning.

The moisture control technical guidance as well as Indoor airPLUS RRNC specifications may be found at www.epa.gov/indoorairplus/technical/index.html.
