January is National Radon Action Month! Test, Fix, Save a Life!

The 2009 annual National Radon Action Month ceremony is being held at the National Press Club (http://npc.press.org/), 529 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20045, on Wednesday, January 28th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The event recognizes individuals and organizations that have contributed to radon risk reduction, and to raise awareness and spur broader public action to reducing the risk of lung cancer.

This event is sponsored by the National Safety Council (NSC) and its partners, the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD), the American Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (AARST), the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the U.S. EPA and many others. In addition to the leadership of these organizations, a several state legislators are expected to attend.

Those to be honored at the ceremony include the student winners of the National Safety Council’s national radon poster contest; the winners of EPA’s Radon Video Contest radon, and radon heroes recognized by CRCPD, AARST and NCSL.

Exposure to radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.
