Regional Radon Stakeholders will meet in their First Annual Stakeholders’ meeting on February 24, 2015, and in continuing education training on February 23rd in Sacramento, California. Those invited to include:
• Radon professionals
• Affordable housing advocates
• Housing authorities
• Legislators
• Cancer and Radon Advocacy Groups
• Nonprofit housing advocacy groups
• Professional associations
• Public agencies
• Residential builders and developers
• State Cancer Control Plan Staff
The meeting is designed for all those that have a stake in protecting the public from unnecessary exposure to radon in their homes, schools and businesses. Hosts include Cancer Survivors Against Radon (CanSAR), and the California State Radon Program with assistance from the US EPA Region 9 office. Attendees are expected from California, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and the Navajo Tribe.
Topics for discussion at the meeting are issues of common interest to the stakeholders. The goal is:
• to provide insight into future radon risk reduction action;
• to share perspectives;
• to educate; and
• to network.
This meeting will focus on radon risk reduction looking at the latest developments in housing policy and science. Speakers include internationally recognized radon experts, as well as representatives from the US Environmental Protection Agency radon and vapor intrusion programs.
Incorporated into the event are two 4-hour classes on Monday, February 23, 2015:
1. "HUD Requirements for Multifamily Testing" by Shawn Price; and
2. "Vapor Intrusion" presented by Kyle Hoylman
Each course is approved for 4 hours of NRPP Category I Continuing Education.
