The Region 8 Radon Conference had an amazing turnout with 142 attendees with 16 vendors. Attendees were from Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming, and Utah.
From the evaluations I can tell you that attendees really enjoyed learning about:
· Lung Cancer and Immunotherapy from Dr. Wallace Akerley, a well-known lung oncologist from Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah;
· the Fish Hatchery radon stories from Eldon Romney; and
· learning about radioactive waste in soil in New Mexico and how a certified mitigator would go about bringing the elevated radon levels down.
On Friday, attendees learned about Radon Resistant New Construction (RRNC) and how to inspect a radon mitigation system during an in-home inspection. Attendees also learned about new certification rules happening within the field.
The evaluations did come in with positive reviews. The vendors were also happy about the space they were in and the event. Attendees were given a card to fill out with four signatures from vendors and then they would be in a drawing at the end of the day. The vendors said that was very helpful with getting participation.
Sponsors and social activities were greatly appreciated. We thank Radon Professional Discount Supply (PDS), who sponsored breakfast and Fantech, who sponsored lunch. There was a wonderful night-out with 50 attendees eating pizza and pasta at the California Pizza Kitchen in Downtown Salt Lake City. All of the attendees got to take home a piece of Utah and the Great Salt Lake. Redmond Company makes Real Salt, which is salt that comes from Old Lake Bonneville and essentially the Great Salt Lake and they donated small bottles of salt for the conference.
