Alabama Public Health, Office of Radiation Control, highlighted National Radon Action Month in its “What’s New” section of its website.

What's New: January is National Radon Action Month, the Department explained that radon cannot be detected by sight or smell, but can cause serious exposure. Noting that exposure can be prevented, the article suggest steps to detect and mitigate high radon levels. It also provided links to the county level results for radon testing at http://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/radon/radon-in-alabama.html and radon testing options http://www.alabamapublichealth.gov/radon/radon-testing.html

In Alabama, 15 counties have been identified as having the highest potential for elevated radon levels. They are Calhoun, Clay, Cleburne, Colbert, Coosa, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, Shelby and Talladega.
