The Alaska Department of Natural Resources promoted National Radon Action Month with a Text Kit Give-away. They encourage the public to work toward safer communities through radon awareness. The result from this and prior testing are used to show where radon has been present in Alaska buildings.
The message encouraging the Give-away follows:
January is National Radon Action Month! It's also a great time to test your home or building for radon! To celebrate and raise public awareness of radon in Alaska, DGGS will give away radon testing kits to Alaskan residents during the month of January. We have a limited number of test kits available, so we ask:
• Request test kits only for buildings within the state of Alaska.
• Test only in buildings where people spend significant amounts of time, such as homes, apartments, workplaces, etc.
• Request only one test kit per building unless the building contains multiple residences such as an apartment or duplex.
• If you've received a test kit from us within the past five years, please request kits only for buildings that have not yet been tested.
To request a testing kit, please fill out our online questionnaire. You may also contact Sam Knapp at sam.knapp@alaska.gov or 907-799-6924 to request a kit or ask questions.
