Current Program Information about the Nevada Radon Program

The Nevada Radon Education Program, University of Nevada, Reno Extension, has produced a recent document on the Radon Program that discusses impacts, goals and future activities.
Targeted public impact is to educate Nevadans about the dangers of radon exposure which causes lung cancer.
The target audience includes homeowners, realtors and medical professionals within the state of Nevada. Focus will be on counties with elevated levels of radon.
Key projects within the program include:
• Development of new videos (English and Spanish) to educate Nevadans about the dangers of radon exposure.
• Partnering with Emmy Award Winner, Three Sticks Productions and Nevada Broadcasting Association.
• Providing Continuing Education Classes to realtors through the Nevada Department for Business and Industry Real Estate Division on Radon Education – in-person and virtual presentations.
• Working with state and local leaders on proclamations for National Radon Awareness Month.
• Collaborating with the Nevada Cancer Coalition.
• Providing data to develop the 2021-2025 Nevada Cancer Prevention Plan.
• Teaching physicians and staff during rounds at the hospital about the dangers of radon.
• Providing materials and test kits.
Future plans for the program include:
• Radon education media tour organized by grant match partner Nevada Broadcast Association– includes in-person and virtual interviews, podcast guest.
• Radon Curriculum – Develop three-hour CE class for realtors and property managers.
• Continuing Education Units (CEs) for realtors and property managers
• Guest instructor for the Las Vegas Realtor Association in Nevada.
• Teach radon education to medical school residents.
