The North Carolina Radon Program is offering a free online course for Licensed Childcare Professionals that awards 2 CEUs upon successful completion. The North Carolina Radon Program works to reduce the incidence of radon-induced lung cancer statewide through education. North Carolina does not require radon testing or mitigation for any building, but does encourage childcare professionals to test and mitigate if necessary. The Program notes:
• Due to lung shape and size differences, children have higher estimated radiation doses than do adults. Children also have breathing rates faster than those of adults.
• Risk of lung cancer in children resulting from exposure to radon may be almost twice as high as the risk to adults exposed to the same amount of radon.
