The Utah Department of Environmental Quality Radon Program provides outreach to residents about the dangers of elevated radon. Along with information for residential testing, the Department encourages testing of day care centers. As part of a series on children’s environmental health though their Choose Safe Paces program, information is provided through a video about radon, and testing and mitigation for day care centers.

The video explains that radon is more dangerous for children because:
• They are lower to ground.
• They breathe more times per minute than adult.
• The shape of their lung puts them more at risk.

The video encourages testing every room where staff and children spend time.
Guidance is provided on testing conditions and kit placement and testing duration. The video refers to the Department’s Radon Program for more information and particulars on mitigation of elevated radon levels.
