Kentucky Comic Book – “Invisible Enemy: The Rise of Radon”
A FRESH (Freedom from Radon Exposure and Smoking in the Home) Project of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing has developed a comic book about radon in an outreach and educational effort.
The comic book story focuses on the interaction of radon and smoking tobacco in creating risk of lung cancer and features a small family and daughter with asthma. The message of the book also includes education about radon, including the relationship of geology and the presence of radon that move into buildings and cause public exposures.
Partners in the production of the comic book include the University of Kentucky College of Nursing, the University of Kentucky Geological Survey, Radon Policy Research Program and BREATHE (Bridging Research Efforts and Advocacy Toward Healthy Environments).
