New York guidance on testing child care centers for radon states:
“If your town or city is listed as a Zone 1 Radon Site and the home or building in which you offer day care services has not already been tested, you must complete testing and resolve any identified problems before registration/licensing is completed.”

A table of Zone 1 Sites includes counties and municipalities within those counties. Detailed steps are provided in two documents:
• How to Test for Radon in a Day Care Center or School Age Child Care Program
• Guidelines for Radon Testing in Family and Group Family Day Care Programs

Information is provided regarding what test results mean and testing post-mitigation.

The Office of Children and Family Services provides this information and directs the public to the New York State Department of Radiological Health/Radon for technical information.
