Alaska announced NRAM promotion in the following:
January is National Radon Action Month! It's also a great time to test your home or building for radon! To celebrate and raise public awareness of radon in Alaska, DGGS will give away radon testing kits to Alaskan residents during the month of January. We have a limited number of test kits available, so we ask:
• Request test kits only for buildings within the state of Alaska.
• Test only in buildings where people spend significant amounts of time, such as homes, apartments, workplaces, etc.
• Request only one test kit per building unless the building contains multiple residences such as an apartment or duplex.
• If you've received a test kit from us within the past five years, please request kits only for buildings that have not yet been tested.
How to Participate
To request a testing kit, please fill out our online questionnaire. You may also contact Jen Athey at jennifer.athey@alaska.gov or 907-451-5028 to request a kit or ask questions.
You may choose to receive your testing kit by mail or pickup (if you live in the Anchorage or Fairbanks areas). Please allow 3-6 weeks for your testing kit to arrive by mail, or we'll contact you with more information if you choose to pick up your testing kit in-person. See the latest DNR Press Release for kit pick-up information and upcoming activities.
Although kits come with pre-paid postage envelopes for shipping completed tests to laboratories outside of Alaska, shipping times have been problematic in the past. We highly recommend using an expedited shipping service (e.g. USPS Priority Mail or better) to ensure tests arrive at laboratories within the allowable time (8 days after completing tests).
