The Maine Division of Environmental and Community Health provides information regarding radon in rental properties.
Radon law requires the testing of rental properties by March 1, 2014, excluding short term rentals of less than 100 days. Maine has publications to advise about aspects of requirements for rental properties, including:
• Radon in Rental Housing - A Serious Hidden Danger to Family Health (tipsheet #11)
• Radon Disclosure Statement for Landlords (HHE 810)
• DRAFT Rental Property Rules for Radon
• Landlord Reporting Form for Radon Testing
• Rental Property Frequently Asked Questions
According to 14 MRS §6030-D, radon testing must be conducted by a Maine-registered radon tester, except landlords can test “simple” buildings, and tenants can test the residence they occupy and areas to which they have access.
A FAQ sheet discusses the issue, available at https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/environmental-health/rad/radon/documents/Rental%20FAQ.pdf
