The New York State Department of Health Radon Program sponsors a yearly radon poster contest, and the contest is now open, with an entry deadline of November 1, 2023.
The goal of the contest is to raise awareness about the harmful effects of elevated levels of indoor radon gas and to increase the number of homes tested for radon.
Youth ages 9-14 are eligible. They may be enrolled in a public, private, territorial, tribal, Department of Defense (DoD), or home school; or qualify through a sponsoring club, such as art, computer, reading or science clubs, scouting organizations, or 4-H clubs. Only one entry per child may be submitted.
Poster entries are accepted on the following topics:
· What is radon?
· Where does radon come from?
· How does radon get into our homes?
· Radon can cause lung cancer.
