The Kansas Department of Health and Environment participated in a White Ribbon Event. The event was designed to build partnerships with the Lung Cancer Community in the Kansas City Metro. The White Ribbon Project delivers the message to the public that anyone can get lung cancer. “The project seeks to amplify the message that lung cancer awareness must include not only risk reduction, but also early detection, treatment, research and survivorship.”

At the event, participants painted 100 ribbons, the symbol of the White Ribbon Project. These ribbons are made from tracings of an original ribbon (or downloading and printing a template), with cutting, painting, labeling, and signing done by those making the ribbons which can be put in yards or other locations.
