The Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ Cooperative Extension Service are creating a radon database and updating the Alaska Radon Map (maps.dggs. alaska.gov/radon) to better understand radon potential and identify where elevated levels of radon exist in the state. The radon database and public visualization tools will provide better understanding of radon potential and identify where elevated levels of radon exist in the state. See the map at https://geoportal.dggs.dnr.alaska.gov/portal/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=8ed4e400e2d9460c8cf959…. The map gives radon observations at recorded locations for maximim, minimum, mean and median values. Additional information will be added as available. Individuals may submit radon data through the website https://dggs.alaska.gov/hazards/download/radon-questionnaire.pdf.

Alaska's radon outreach project has published a new brochure used for outreach to the public https://dggs.alaska.gov/webpubs/dggs/ic/text/ic082_v2.pdf. The brochure discusses radon, health effects and testing. In April 2024, Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys published the document. This publication is part of a larger effort to update the Alaska radon database and make it accessible to the public.
