On January 27th, the Vermont Department of Health posted a statewide blast on Front Porch Forum (https://frontporchforum.com) advertising the availability of free radon test kits for Vermonters. More than 1,000 radon test kits have been requested so far. Front Porch Forum is a neighborhood forum that helps neighbors connect and build community across Vermont and in parts of New York.
The Health Department has been posting to Front Porch Forum during national radon action month since 2016 to increase awareness of radon risk and to encourage testing. The Vermont Radon Program distributes around 3000 free radon test kits each year. About one third to two thirds of the test kit requests received each year come from this annual Front Porch Forum post. In total, almost 14,300 free radon test kits have been distributed through Front Porch Forum outreach alone.
