For over ten years the NC Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control has been an incredible partner in producing, creating and implementing projects and educational materials to lower the incidence of radon-induced lung cancer in North Carolina.

One of the efforts was highlighted as a success story by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention:https://www.cdc.gov/comprehensive-cancer-control/success-stories/north-carolina-radon-testing.html. This project also resulted in an award by the NC Society of Public Health Educators.

A number of technical and educational brochures have been developed with direct technical and financial support from the NC Cancer Control Branch and from the members of the Cancer Control Plan:

Members of the NC Academy of Family Physicians who participate on the NC Cancer Control Plan made it possible to increase awareness to family physicians through online presentations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx55f7LY1HM; a co-authored (myself and Dr. Vickie Fowler) article in the NCAFP magazine

An audio PSA by the former chair of the NCAFPhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTBkBMAd9l8

And the NC Medical Society wrote an article for their members about radon: https://ncmedsoc.org/free-residential-radon-test-kits-now-available-take-action-for-radon-action-mo…

Through the NC Cancer Control Plan, an ongoing partnership with the Lung Cancer Initiative has resulted in a number of projects and materials. One such product is the newest video: https://youtu.be/VFs7CRbJ-7k?si=0IAbcAv2lwu47mru

There are a number of other benefits from our 10 year plus partnership with the NC Cancer Control Plan staff and members.
