New Jersey Indicator Reports for Radon in Homes and Schools

The New Jersey State Health Assessment Data website provides indicator reports based on data provided by the Radon Section, Bureau of Environmental Radiation, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Indicators include “Radon Screening in Homes” and “Radon Testing in Schools.” Reports are available with charts, tables and narrative explanations.

For Screening in Homes, the indicator reports that as of 2023, over 46% of all New Jersey homes that had tested equal to or greater than 4 pCi/L had been mitigated. The HNJ2020 target was 50% mitigated.

Radon Testing Schools reports the “Percentage of Radon Samples in Public Schools That Tested for Radon That Were At or Above 4 pCi/L by County, New Jersey, 2020-2023” using maps, tables and narratives. During the period 2020-2023, over 3,400 radon samples were collected in New Jersey K-12 public schools across the state. From those samples, fewer than 2% were at or above the 4 pCi/L standard. The highest levels of radon were detected in schools located in Hunterdon and Morris Counties.
