Vermont’s June 2025 Deadline for Testing Radon in Schools

The Vermont Department of Health provides information about radon in schools, including new testing requirements. Vermont requires testing for radon in schools with a deadline of June 2025 to complete the testing, which was extended from a 2022 deadline in the original legislation.

In 2021, the Vermont legislature passed a law requiring all schools to test for radon (Section 12 of Act 72). In 2022, an extension was granted giving schools until June 30, 2025 to complete testing. Each public school and approved independent school must make available the results of the radon to each employee and student at the school. The Vermont website provides templates that may be used for notification of testing and test results.

The website also provides Best Practices for Testing and Best Practices for Fixing a Radon Problem. If a radon problem is found, the Health Department recommends schools take action to fix it.
