The New Jersey Department of Health has reported results of radon testing in schools for the period 2020-2023 when more than 3,400 samples were collected. The data is part of the New Jersey State Health Assessment Data reporting. The Radon Section, Bureau of Environmental Radiation, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection provided the data.

In the study reported as “Radon Testing in Schools by County, New Jersey, 2020-2023,” results are presented in map form, showing the percentage of radon samples at or above 4pCi/L. A tabular form also gives the number of samples collected.
In the complete report, it states:
“During the period 2020-2023, over 3,400 radon samples were collected in New Jersey K-12 public schools across the state. From those samples, fewer than 2% were at or above the 4 pCi/L standard. The highest levels of radon were detected in schools located in Hunterdon and Morris Counties.”
A note about the data explains that sample results were not available in all counties in New Jersey. It states that samples do not necessarily represent individual schools, as some schools may have tested more than once in a specified year.
