The Michigan Indoor Radon Program is announcing its annual poster contest. The Program encourages students to “Show off your creativity and protect your community. Submit your EGLE Indoor Radon Poster by Nov. 7.” The announcement follows:

The radon poster contest is back! What is radon? It’s a colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas that is naturally occurring within the soil. It can enter homes and buildings through cracks and openings, and high levels of it in the home can be bad for your health. It is the leading cause of lung cancer for never smokers. The only way to know if it is in your home is to use a radon test kit.

EGLE is calling on 6th - 8th grade students to help educate their communities and the state through making an educational poster. They will submit their posters to EGLE to be judged on its originality, accuracy, and grammar.

Students can create their posters following these topics:
1. What is radon?
2. Where does radon come from?
3. How does radon get into our homes?
4. Radon can cause lung cancer.
5. Test your home for radon.
6. Mitigating radon in your home.

The artwork of the first and second place winners will be featured on EGLE social media channels and the EGLE Indoor Radon Program website to help educate their home state of Michigan.

But it doesn’t stop there – the artwork of the first place winner will be entered in the National Radon Poster Contest for the chance to win big and have their poster used as educational material across the United States.

Students have the chance to be creative, learn about radon, and share their knowledge with others! Visit the Radon Poster Contest Webpage for the rules and the submission form. The contest closes November 7th. EGLE looks forward to all the amazing submissions!
