The University of Nevada, Reno, Radon Program has published recent guidance on “How To Know If a Radon Mitigation Contractor Did a Good Job.”

It provides the basic steps a radon mitigation contractor should be doing when installing a radon mitigation system and provides some technical factors and considerations. The publication is part of the Program’s outreach to the public about testing and mitigating elevated radon levels.

This recently published brochure addresses a homeowner’s understanding of the mitigation process and system, which may be lacking.

It also emphasizes how to verify the installation has been successful. Advice on verification are:
“Once your contractor has completed these steps, you should verify the system is working by conducting a post-mitigation test within 30 days of installation but no sooner than 24 hours after your system is in operation with the fan on. Retest again at least every two years. In Nevada, it is recommended that testing be done during the heating season months.”
