North Carolina 2026 Webinar Encourages Incorporating Radon in Community Health Assessments

An new hour-long webinar presented in 2026 with Phillip Gibson speaking and moderating is posted on the North Carolina Health and Human Services discussing radon. Mr. Gibson is the NC Radon Program Coordinator in the Radiation Protection Section.

The webinar discusses radon health effects and how radon exposure occurs and when mitigation is needed. Other speakers discuss technical information, the public health tracking program and the NC data portal and dashboard. The 2021-2024 data set is available and reveals at least on elevated reading was found in 90 counties of NC.

The Radon Program encourages Community Health Assessments to promote radon testing and mitigation at the local level. The data portal is a resource for those Community Health Assessments. Partnering with the Radon Program is encouraged.
