In its report titled "Overview of EPA’s State and Tribal Indoor Radon Grants Program: A Focus on Activities Conducted During Fiscal Year 2025," the EPA State Indoor Radon Grant Program notes successes in Testing and Remediation of Schools and Childcare Facilities.
The EPA report notes that the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families enacted a policy in 2023 requiring all licensed childcare providers to test for radon and mitigate when levels meet or exceed 4 pCi/L. During the reporting period for FY 25, more than 40 childcare centers mitigated elevated radon levels, protecting approximately 1,200 enrolled children as well as teachers and caretakers of the facilities from exposure to high radon.
