Event Description
A meeting was arranged by Madison County's Environmental Health Division with a City Codes Officer and Planning Director to discuss newly released radon test findings and to encourage radon resistant construction methods be used in any new residential housing within this area. Upon reviewing the test results, said officials readily agreed to require such measures upon issuance of building permits. Further efforts discussed included issuing letter to the City Council documenting concerns and encouraging action, conducting presentations at City Council, Rotary and other civic organizational meetings, supporting City HUD grant applications for radon mitigation systems in existing homes with high radon levels, engaging in a campaign to encourage residents in the City to test for radon, and identifying those homes who have installed mitigation systems and subsequently measured reduced indoor radon levels to promote such successes.
