Onondaga County homeowners can get free radon test kitsBy John Mariani / The Post-Standard
January 05, 2010, 10:24AM
Syracuse, NY -- The Onondaga County Health Department is giving away a limited number of radon test kits to county homeowners, department officials said.
Radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, officials said. It is released by the natural decay of uranium in the soil and enters homes through basement cracks, floor drains and sump pump holes. It is tasteless, colorless and odorless and requires testing to be detected.
The test kits are available by calling (315) 435-6613.
