Event Description
Ginger Bennett was guest on Community Focus, WGTJ GLORY 1330 radio, January 7, 2010, with Ann Gainey. The lively interview brought radon in N Georgia into focus, covering radon levels in and around Gainesville GA and the fact that over 800 Georgians die each year from radon-related lung cancer. All area homeowners were strongly urged to protect their families from this deadly radioactive gas that is the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer in the US (after smoking). Radon is an invisible silent killer without smell or taste and causes no immediate symptoms. Georgians are indeed at risk of developing lung cancer if they don't take action and test their homes for radon. If the levels are high, the homeowner should have a nationally certified radon professional to install a ventilation system that allows soil gases to bypass the interior of the home.Anyone buying a home should have it tested as a part of the inspection and anyone building a new home should have radon resistant features installed. Listening audience estimated at 10,000.
