RADON DANGER – January is National Radon Action Month
January is National Radon Action month and is a great time to learn that exposure to radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas, kills nearly 825 people in Georgia every year. It is the leading cause of lung cancer in non smokers and you can help protect your family. You can get a low cost easy to use test kit at the Hall County Extension office. If a home has high radon, it can be fixed by installing a ventilation system that can lower the radon to safer levels. Radon gas comes from uranium in rocks and soil beneath your home. It is invisible, has no taste or smell and causes no immediate symptoms. Ginger Bennett, radon educator for this area will be happy to help you with radon information and help you develop a CPA or DPA project on radon. Contact her today at 770-535-8290 or via Email at bennettg@uga.edu.
