Event Description
Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo is pleased to be partnering with the Essex County Cancer Coalition and UMDNJ to raise awareness about the dangers of radon gas and its effects.
The Essex County Cancer Coalition (ECCC) announces its' participation with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) -Radon Section in the Radon Awareness Program (RAP) and the Newborn Pilot Program (NPP). Both programs are NJDEP initiatives which offer up to $1000 reimbursement for the purchase of radon test kits with funding provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency-SIRG Grant. ECCC has partnered with local health departments for the RAP, who in turn will distribute free radon test kits as well as informational brochures to homeowners in their respective cities and towns through various outreach efforts.

Similarly, through the NPP, families of infants born at various Essex County hospitals will receive radon test kits to use in their homes so that their newborns can begin life in a healthy home environment.
