I have heard increasing criticisms over the last few years that the EPA radon potential maps are not as accurate (in predicting areas with increased potential for radon exposure) as state collected screening measurement data. Has anyone performed any detailed comparisons within their state? I am particularly interested in comparisons performed in the Midwest.

What does it take to get the EPA radon map changed? I have levels in my county that testing labs as well as my data indicated are well over 4.0 yet the EPA map shows 2-4.

The latest round of Clean Air Excellence awards has opened. Radon programs and projects can apply. Due date is Sept. 25th. The Georgia radon program won this in 2007:

This awards program annually recognizes and honors both individuals and organizations that have undertaken the risks of innovation, served as pioneers in their fields, and have helped to improve air quality. The program is open to both public and private entities in the United States. EPA accepts entries in five award categories and two special award categories:

All - There has been a change in leadership in the Office of Radiation and Indoor Air (ORIA) where the radon program is housed. Elizabeth Cotsworth, the Office Director, has taken extended leave. Tom Kelly is acting in her place and Dave Rowson is acting as head of the Indoor Environments Division. Many of you know Dave from his days as the radon branch chief..

See the notice below for EPA's CARE program. At least one CARE community in the past has focused on radon as their primary issue.
