I placed an order for the EPA's Citizens Guide to Radon a month ago. I was told the publication is on backorder. We are rolling out a radon awareness program in Virginia. We will be distributing free radon test kits.We always distribute the booklet with our test kits. Is the EPA going to stop producing this publication? Any suggestions?

Warm regards,

Question Regarding Ambient Air Radon Testing

Question Regarding Ambient Air Radon Testing

If the radon level in a residential 1 family, ranch styled house (with crawl space beneath the house) is 113 pCi/L how can a tester determine the radon level emitted from the exterior ground outside the house?

My client is concerned about her dog (small hound dog that constantly is sniffing the ground and only stands 6" off the ground) and her very young children that play on the ground outside the house and take naps on blankets lying flat on the ground.

To all:

Was wondering if anyone has ran across any situations where the lender has made it mandatory for the radon ( after a radon test has been done ) to be at a certain level?

I am working with a realtor on a job where she stated that the loan originator ( from the Chicago area ) has noted that they will not guarantee the loan or give a interest rate lock until a radon system is installed in the house in question and provide a test where the radon level is at 2.0 pCi/L or lower.

Special Condition: Mitigation Question

Queston: I have a special condition where I have a walk-out basement and a
perimeter drain tile that empties to atmosphere through a hillside. (no sump
crcock) My mitigation tech wants to connect to the drain tile to lower the
Rn level in the home.

I can't see this working very well to pull negative pressure from the sub
slab area.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Bill Barnes

NYSDOH Radon Program -- Newborn Project Update

NYRadon

The newborn radon testing program has been an effective method of testing homes in high-risk areas of radon across New York State since 2004. Over the past 5 years there has been a slow but steady increase in number of test results generated from this program. In June 2009, we partnered with the New York State Congenital Malformation Registry in regard to the hospitals they work with. From their list of specific contact information at each hospital, we were able to increase our number of participating hospitals from 25 in July of 2008 to 61 in August of 2009.
