I want to relate a recent situation that a Connecticut homeowner had to experience. It all started about ten years ago when this Connecticut couple purchased their new home. The home had a water problem in one half of their basement so they called a local basement waterproofing contractor who gave them an estimate to install a partial drainage system. They agreed and had the work performed.

On September 29, Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) introduced the Research, Hazard Intervention, and National Outreach for Healthier Housing Act (S.3654). Among other provisions, the bill would create new Health Hazard Reduction Grant program in HUD to address home health and safety hazards, including radon testing and mitigation. The grants would be authorized at $10 million a year.

The legislation isn't likely to be considered this session, but could be reintroduced next year.

Given the recent news about George in California, who else is worried?

Is there a way to prepare to make arguments against elimination? (i.e., data showing impact)

Can we help each other (such as posting on the Portal resource page letters to Governors in support of radon programs?).

Please discuss
