During EPA's recent Webinar, Get Caught in the ‘Net: Building Your Web Strategy to Reduce Radon Risk, Clark Eldredge and Jorge Laguna of the Florida Radon and Indoor Air Toxics Program shared specific examples of how they have worked to improve the Florida Program’s web site. These improvements have increased their web traffic and reduced the number of inquiry phone calls to their office, helping them efficiently meet the information needs of their audience.

This really is old news, but it seems so significant that it’s worth a posting. In January, the National Association of Home Builders unveiled its final version of the NAHB Green Building Standard. It has been accepted as an ANSI standard. Thus, it is no longer a guideline, but a standard with ANSI status. The remarkable thing about this standard is its position on radon. It is mandatory that buildings located in Zone 1 have radon control measures (in accordance with ICC IRC Appendix F). If a passive system is installed the builder garners 10 points

The following message was submitted by a concerned citizen to RadonLeaders.org. Please provide your thoughts and input.

I live in Ocala, Florida. I recently had the Marion County Health Department do radon testing in my home. Levels in the range of 50-70 pCi/L were detected. My home needs to be mitigated. I do not know if the government has any grants or other assistance to help me get a mitigation done. Can you provide any information, advice, guidance?

Thank you for your help!

Hello,

I'm having a VERY hard time getting my question answered by anyone. We have lived in our home for 10 years and just tested for Radon gas. Tests came back high: 10, 14 and 16.

Today, we are having a venting mitigation system installed.

Is there something we should do for each member of our family (5) to check for any short/long term effects that the Radon gas may have had on us over the past 10 years?

Question on Dust and Radon

Question on Dust and Radon

I need a refresher course in the mechanism of how radon gets into the lungs.

I just had a client ask "does the amount of dust in my home's indoor air influence the level of radioactive exposure to the lungs?" Knowing that radon attaches to dust particles, it would seem that the more dust present, the more radon-laced dust particles one would inhale. Is this a fair assessment?

I await your learned responses.

Thanks, Ginger

Friday, January 9th 2009. We will soon be forming a workgroup to look at the EPA Zone Map and the existing state radon maps. I expect that the workgroup will be comprised of representatives from the EPA HQ radon team, EPA regional staff, individual states, CRCPD, AARST and possibly others. I would like to keep the workgroup relatively small (e.g., 12-15 people) presuming that the representatives will commit to communicating effectively with those they represent and with the workgroup.

Hi All,

New member, first post. I recieved an email from the List server Radon Professional forum that mentioned this new forum.

I was unable to stay for the last day of the AARST conference and missed the discussion on what was to be done on the issue of granite countertops, Radon, and radiation. I heard that the CRCPD is going to host the effort.

Are there any details anywhere on what is going to be done and when? Can stakeholders sign up for participation or comment?

Thanks,
Al
