Special Condition: Mitigation Question

Queston: I have a special condition where I have a walk-out basement and a
perimeter drain tile that empties to atmosphere through a hillside. (no sump
crcock) My mitigation tech wants to connect to the drain tile to lower the
Rn level in the home.

I can't see this working very well to pull negative pressure from the sub
slab area.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Bill Barnes

I don't use charcoal canisters, but I have questions (from a lab) regarding charcoal canisters that I am hopeful subscribers can answer.

The newborn radon testing program has been an effective method of testing homes in high-risk areas of radon across New York State since 2004. Over the past 5 years there has been a slow but steady increase in number of test results generated from this program. In June 2009, we partnered with the New York State Congenital Malformation Registry in regard to the hospitals they work with. From their list of specific contact information at each hospital, we were able to increase our number of participating hospitals from 25 in July of 2008 to 61 in August of 2009.

We can expect questions from the public and radon professionals about the WHO recommendation for a 2.7 pCi/L (100 Bq/m3) radon reference level, so I’m working on an all-purpose answer.

What does it take to get the EPA radon map changed? I have levels in my county that testing labs as well as my data indicated are well over 4.0 yet the EPA map shows 2-4.
